Rep. Christina Hale Named ‘Legislator of the Year’ by Indiana School Counselor Association
Indianapolis, Ind. – State Rep. Christina Hale (D-Indianapolis) has been named “Legislator of the Year” by the Indiana School Counselor Association (ISCA).
The Indiana School Counselor Association (ISCA) supports school counselors’ efforts to help students focus on academic, social/emotional, and college/career development so they achieve success in school and are prepared to lead fulfilling lives as responsible members of society. The nonprofit, which was founded in 1965, provides professional development, publications and other resources, research and advocacy to more than 700 professional school counselors around the state.
“Representative Hale shares our mission of promoting student achievement. She understands that our counselors’ supportive work in Indiana schools is crucial,” said Brandie Oliver, ISCA president. “Christina has stood up for those who work with students on their academic and career choices, as well as their emotional issues ranging from acting up in class and problems at home to bullying and suicide prevention and intervention.”
“This is a tremendous honor, as this organization and its members are fully committed to ensuring that our children succeed,” Rep. Hale said. “Our kids are so much more than their test scores; school counselors recognize that and bring out the very best in our students.”
Rep. Hale will join school counselors from around Indiana for their fall conference on Nov. 7, where she will be formally recognized during the ISCA awards luncheon as Legislator of the Year.
If reelected to a second term, my priorities will continue to focus on finding solutions and working collaboratively to achieve a better standard of living for all Hoosiers today, with a view toward building the most successful Indiana possible for Hoosiers in the near and distant future as well.
Specifically, this includes:
Continuing my work to reduce the extremely high rate of sexual assault against girls. Currently, Indiana is one of the very worst states in the region, as the CDC cites Hoosier girls of high school age are raped at the rate of one in six.
Leveraging my position as Ranking Minority Member of the Commerce, Small Business, and Economic Development Committee and as adviser to the Indiana Career Council to ensure that Indiana supports an entrepreneurial climate, lifestyle, and infrastructural improvements that will fuel our economic success into 2050 and beyond.
Continuing my work on the Utilities and Energy Committee to create smart state policies to ensure the responsible use and allocation of water resources and a streamlined regulatory process for water management.
Supporting the continued development of publicly funded Pre-K programs as well as mandatory, fully-funded, full-day kindergarten at age five.
Driving government reform, where sensible, to ensure that taxpayers are receiving high quality necessary services in the most efficient means possible.
In Indiana, we’re looking forward to the future again. We’re inspired by renewed principles. Opportunity for all. Long-term vision. Thoughtful, effective leadership. Vote for Christina Hale for Indiana State Representative. The right voice at the right time.
